English Springer Spaniels are amazingly smart dogs and are a favorite of hunters as hunting dogs due to their great loyalty and retrieving abilities. Once trained the English Springer is well behaved and gentle. But the young English Springer Spaniel is very hyper and hard to control. Actually getting your Spaniel to pay attention and participate during training is likely to be the most difficult road block of the entire training process. Once you’ve trained your English Springer Spaniel to stay on task the training process is fairly easy and the English Springer will become quite receptive to training.
However, curbing the high energy of your English Springer Spaniel is far from an easy task. The trick to reducing high energy levels in dogs is to get them to use their energy in a big way a couple times during the day instead of allowing them to release their energy in a destructive manner. Catch is a game that will use up a lot of your English Springer Spaniels energy, and require little effort from the owner. You may also try building them a digging pit or taking them hunting or on hiking trips.
Try to plan high energy activities for your English Springer Spaniel for everyday. Keeping them active will allow them to relax when they are in the house or around company. Your English Springer Spaniel will eventually learn that draining activities are available daily and will reserve their energy during the day so they can have more fun when it time to let go of built up energy.
English Springer Spaniels love people and always aim to please their owners. Daily activities will keep your dog alert and happy, and will allow you both to bond. Firm and consistent training as always is the key to training an English Springer Spaniels.
