German Shorthaired Pointers are very smart and high energy. High energy levels are ok as long as you can allow thme to channel their energy into something productive. If you give a German Shorthaired Pointer too much time to themselves and don’t give them a chance to exercise each day then they will take out the energy on your furniture and home. German Shorthaired Pointers can be very destructive if not cared for properly. The easiest way to avoid this behavior is to make sure they get enough exercise, make sure you walk your German Shorthaired Pointer at least twice a day.
German Shorthaired Pointers are also notorious barkers. This isn’t always a bad thing. After all, thats what they were trained and bred to do. But when barking gets to the point where they keep you up at night and disturb your neighbors, then something needs to be done to stop your German Shorthaired Pointer from using barking as a way to gain attention.
Your first option to control excessive barking is to train your German Shorthaired Pointer to only bark when commanded to. This will teach them that barking is only appropriate when told to do so.
If your German Shorthaired Pointer seems to bark because they feel as if they are in control, you need to train them out of this behavior as soon as possible. When they bark command them to stop. If they manage to stop reward them with praise.
In extreme cases a bark collar may be needed. Most collars will send a small shock to your dog or will spray an unpleasant mist in their face. This is a fast way to teach your German Shorthaired Pointer not to bark. This method should only be used in extreme situations, and should never severely harm a dog.
Don’t hesitate to train your German Shorthaired Pointer. Its never too early to train your dog but it can be too late if you don’t take action.

The trick to reducing high energy levels in dogs is to get them to use their energy in a big way a couple times during the day instead of allowing them to release their energy in a destructive manner. Catch is a game that will use up a lot of your English Springer Spaniels energy, and require little effort from the owner. You may also try building them a digging pit or taking them hunting or on hiking trips.

The Beagle is one of the most popular breed of Hounds out there. They are very friendly with people and do particularly well with children which is exactly why they’ve become so popular among families. Beagles are prone to separation anxiety because of their pack instincts. In order to curb their need for companionship, its may be a good idea to get another pet to keep them company; Beagles get along great with other animals. Like most Hounds, the Beagle is easily distracted by strange scents and won’t hesitate to run off after a smell that piques their curiosity. The “recall” command is among the most important commands you should train your dog.
To prevent your Beagle from running off after a scent they’ve picked up, its important to keep them on a standard leash, especially when training, as opposed to a retractable leash so they will learn to stay by their owners during walks. This is exceptionally important, if you’re Beagle isn’t capable of obeying the “recall” command. Though this shouldn’t be a problem because Beagles take very easily to dog training, and pick up commands fairly quickly.
Beagles respond very well to food or treat rewards while training. Unfortunately, the Beagle is also quite prone to obesity. So you’re probably going to better of rewarding your Beagle large amounts of praise during your dog training sessions, rather than treats. This is generally a good idea anyway, because you may not always have treats, but you are always capable of praising your dog for good behavior.
Other than their strong interest in scents, the only other roadblock you may encounter when training your Beagle is their tendency to be stubborn. Otherwise, the Beagle is a piece of cake when it comes to dog training. And with constant firm training, you’ll have a well-behaved and highly social family pet.
